The heats of the All Nations shearing and woolhandling were being run simultaneously, the first heats featuring three former World champions – shearing guns Rowland Smityh, of Hastings, the 2014 champion and Australian legend and 2000 and 2005 winner Shannon Warnest, and 2012 woolhandling champion and 2017 favourite Joel Henare, based now in Dunedin and from Gisborne.
The second heats included New Zealand World title shearing hopes John Kirkpatrick(pictured), of Napier, and host-city shearer Nathan Stratford.
